FAQ
Questions people ask before they write to us
If yours is not here, email us and we will answer it, and probably add it.
Getting started
We take over and support software that nobody else will. If your developer or vendor is gone and the software still runs your business, we learn it, document it, move backups and access into accounts you own, fix what needs fixing, and then support it month to month.
Start with a Takeover Assessment. In about two weeks we learn the system, document it, put backups and access in your hands, and give you a plain-English report with a price on every fix. If something is broken right now, start with Rescue instead.
About two weeks from kickoff to readout. Larger or unusual systems are scoped before we start, so you know the timeline and the price up front.
Use Rescue. You name the one failure, we start within two business days, work up to 12 hours for a fixed $4,500 fee, restore service and write down what we found. Bigger work is quoted before we do it.
Pricing
Takeover Assessments are $3,500 (small) or $7,500 (standard). Retainers are Keep-Alive at $2,000 per month, Support Plus at $4,500 per month and Own-It at $8,500 per month. Rescue is $4,500. Prices are in USD with a fixed scope, and the pricing page lists every option.
The full Takeover Assessment fee is credited toward your first three months of any retainer if you sign within 90 days of the report. The credit is non-cash, non-refundable and non-transferable, and it cannot exceed the assessment fee. Stand-alone reviews and Rescue carry a 50% credit for 90 days (reviews: $2,400 on Essentials, $4,750 on Standard, up to $10,000 on Deep).
Retainers have a three-month minimum. Keep-Alive is month-to-month after that. Own-It is available by request with a three-month minimum. There is no hourly billing on retainers, and work outside the monthly scope is quoted as a fixed-price project first.
How we work
Yes, and we tell you on the first call and in the written scope. AI tools do the first pass on reading and drafting, and a person reviews and signs off on every change. If you prefer that no code reach an AI model, we offer a fully manual option for assessments and reviews at 50% above the tier price.
No. We make no production change without your written approval. Changes arrive as pull requests or as a documented step that a person has reviewed.
You do. We hold access in a credential vault that you own, and we move hosting and backups into accounts in your name during the assessment. If you ever leave, you keep everything.
We need to read the code, and if no repository exists we set one up as part of the assessment. If the code cannot be found at all, we tell you what that means for your options before any further spending.
Unless you are on a retainer, we delete our copy of your code within 30 days of the final report. If you leave a retainer, you keep the documentation, the repository and the access inventory, all in accounts you own.
Scope
We work mostly with common web stacks such as PHP, Python, .NET and Django. Less common stacks are handled with a stack-qualified contractor, and we tell you before you pay whether your system is a fit.
No. We do not offer security assessments or security testing. Our work is about keeping software running and in your hands. If you need a security review, we will refer you to a specialist.
Our focus is supporting what you already have. We fix, upgrade and extend it. Larger rebuilds are quoted on request, and we will tell you honestly when fixing in place is the better value.
Contact
We work by email and scheduled calls. Write to hello@zeroexposure.io or use the contact form and we reply by email.
Yes. You keep the relationship, we take over the software you cannot support, and we pay a referral fee. See the partners page for how it works.
Tell us what you have
In two weeks we know it, document it, and keep it running. Send a few lines about your software and we will reply by email.
